Gli Azzurri won on penalties, 5-3, after a 1-1 draw with France. Zidane was sent off for a crazy headbut. Trezeguet hit the bar on his penalty, and the Italians broke the curse. None of their players missed from the spot. The last was Fabio Grosso. What a tournament for Grosso! What a run for the four-time world champions!

I read that Mr. Blatter of Fifa will convene a
meeting of referees and
journalists to come up
with ideas to increase the opportunities to score in a soccer game.
I would appreciate your help in getting the suggestion below to Fifa:
Every time a team commits ten fouls punishable with a DIRECT
free kick, at the tenth
such foul play would resume with a free kick, NOT from the location of
the foul, but from a spot of the choice of the opposing team ALONG
the curved line outside the penalty area; the
defending team would be allowed to place one or
maximum two men 11 yards
away, in front of the goalie. All other players of both teams would stand outside the
area, just like for penalties.
The count of the fouls (including those which are not called by the referee because of the advantage rule, but excluding those resulting in a penalty kick) would be kept by the 4th man/referee assistant.
Considering that in every game we have often 20-30 fouls per team, this would create several scoring opportunities in each game, as well as adding drama to the game, and
propably improve the game because of fewer fouls being committed.
The referee may add extra time to compensate for the time lost for each special 10th-foul kick.
Please convey this idea
to Fifa, or, if you choose not to, please give me some input as to
how I can do it myself directly. Thank you very much.
